Grandmaster Chung Kwok Chow

As a New Yorker,Chung Kwok ChowLives, works and teaches in New York since 1971.
Originally born in Hong Kong where the biggest entertainment for him as a child was watching Kung Fu movies. As a teenager he needed to find a way to spend his energy and Kung Fu was an obvious choice. But instead he joined a bodybuilding gym at age 15, the first time he understood the body's mechanism.
The following year he started trainingKarate under the tutelage of Carter Wongat the Kowloon Scout Club. 2 years later he heard that theWing Chunit was a very good style with the hands. In order to fill in the gaps in Karate's hand technique, he started training Wing Chun underSifu Ng Wah Sum, nicknamed the "short-legged tiger", who was a disciple ofLeung Sheung(GM Yip Man's first formal student). He was also the chosen fighter, represented by the Wing Chun System, to compete in the Southeast Asia Open Tournament in Singapore in 1969. Sifu Ng took 3rd place, respectively. He was delighted to train under the tutelage of someone who had real fighting experience.

At age 20, he moved to New York.
And there friends had already heard about his Wing Chun and asked him to give a private lesson. The number of students grew rapidly.
The following year (1972), he opened the first Wing Chun School in New York City, near Chinatown. The school had attracted hundreds of Americans and local martial artists.
His school also caught the attention of other Chinatown Kung Fu schools.
At that time, teaching for non-Chinese was still not favorable. He was often threatened by them. Except a Fu-Jaw Pai's Kung Fu School. The master was Eng Wai Hong who had an open mind and recognized the Wing Chun System. He invited Sifu Chow to the Eastern Kung Fu Federation Committee. Master Wai Hong was a hard-working promoter, taking Sifu Chow and many Kung Fu masters to travel around the US and abroad to promote the arts of Kung Fu and inspired him to give Wing Chun seminars.

Established martial arts are part of the global culture that encouraged him to delve into the science behind them, especially Wing Chun.
He started training Kali, Muai Thai, Boxing, Taichi Chuan, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…etc.
In Wing Chun, he improved his knowledge with Kenneth Chung, Yip Chun, Yip Ching, Hawkins Cheung, Alan Ngai to understand the different paths and aspects of Wing Chun.
In 1985 he organized the 8 Wing Chun theories for the magazine Inside Kung Fu and eventually in poster format. It also produced 13 instructional video lessons.
He traveled to several countries to spread Wing Chun and in 1989 he came to Brazil for the first time at the invitation of Sifu Francisco D'Urbano from UNK and since then he has come regularly to the country to give seminars to his students who are now teachers and who represent him and continue his legacy.
His last article in Wing Chun Illustrated Magazine 2018 was the hip power concept “Jarn Dai Lik”.
